Through our Starring North Yorkshire campaign, we are championing the county’s on‑screen appeal – from dramatic moorland and sweeping dales to vibrant market towns and world‑class heritage attractions. The campaign highlights the breadth of filming locations across the region and encourages visitors to explore the real places behind the on-screen stories they love.
Building on last year’s success, the latest installment of the 28 Years Later franchise – The Bone Temple – once again puts North Yorkshire in the spotlight. Filming took place around Redmire and at the Embsay & Bolton Abbey Railway, which was transformed into a haunting, abandoned setting for the production. These locations add to the growing list of North Yorkshire sites featured across both films which previously starred Fountains Abbey and Aysgarth Falls.
To coincide with the new release, we partnered with set‑jetting influencer Melissa Maddock, who explored key filming locations and shared her experience with an audience of more than 300,000 followers. Her content showcases how visitors can plan their own short break around the franchise’s North Yorkshire settings.
Another major moment for North Yorkshire this year is the highly anticipated new adaptation of “Wuthering Heights”, already attracting international interest thanks to its modern take and world-famous cast. Working closely with VisitBritain, we have coordinated six media and influencer visits from key markets including Germany, Italy and Australia. These trips have taken journalists and creators across the Yorkshire Dales to locations that are reminiscent of Emily Brontë’s novel and which feature prominently in the new film.
These visits are already delivering direct benefits to local businesses. Journalist and influencers have stayed in independent accommodation, dined in local restaurants, and explored filming locations with the support of local tour operators and transport providers.
