Place pages: The many objectives of a single page
One of the challenges in creating web pages for places is the many different things those pages need to achieve:
- Introduce a place to new visitors who don’t know it
- Help people who do know a place find exactly what they are looking for
- Show what that place has by way of things to do, places to eat, accommodation and shops
- What events are taking place
- Inspire visitors with itineraries, stories, history and more.
- Provide core visitor information around car parks, travel, and Tourist Information Centres.
We have identified that we can do this in a better way, so our main place pages have changed this spring, with three clear sections of introduction, exploration, and inspiration.
Pages for visitors and search tools
In addition to that we will be creating more place content that will help visitors find their way, answer their questions, help them plan their visit and tell them about the character of our places.
These new pages will not only help visitors who are on our site, but also be specifically configured for use by Search Engine Results Page features as well as AI services and search tools.
The Visit North Yorkshire website is already viewed as a reliable resource for AI tools such as ChatGPT, Google Search and Perplexity. By factoring our content and business listings we can directly influence the output of these tools as they are used by the public when planning their next UK break.
The revised templates for our place landing pages went live at the end of March, and included our new place discovery map.
Creating and adding new content and pages across all the places listed on the Visit North Yorkshire website is a big task and one that will progress over 2026 and into 2027.
However the more listings we have for a place, the more we can shout about that place and show, rather than tell, all it has to offer visitors. If your business is visitor facing and not already on visitnorthyorkshire.com, you can help promote your place by getting involved.
Options for being listed on our website begin with a £0 Bronze level, find out more about how your business can be included if it isn’t already.
