Visit North Yorkshire is partnering with the York and North Yorkshire Growth Hub and City of York Council on an initiative to deliver fully funded training and certification courses for tourism and hospitality businesses across North Yorkshire and York.
The courses on offer include:
Mental Wellbeing in Hospitality
Training supports hospitality professionals in understanding and maintaining good mental health, both for themselves and their colleagues. The course explores practical strategies for achieving a healthy work-life balance, recognising signs of mental ill health, and creating a more supportive and inclusive workplace, helping to improve employee wellbeing, engagement, and job satisfaction.
Level 2 Food Hygiene and Safety for Catering
Businesses across York and North Yorkshire are being encouraged to strengthen their food safety knowledge through the Food Hygiene Training course. The industry-recognised course is designed for anyone working in the food and hospitality sector, providing essential guidance on how to maintain safe and hygienic food premises. Participants will gain an understanding of their legal responsibilities, as well as best practice in areas including food safety hazards, temperature control, food storage and preparation, personal hygiene, and cleaning procedures.
Level 2 Food Allergen Awareness
This course is designed to support food and hospitality businesses in understanding food allergies, allergen labelling requirements, and their legal responsibilities under UK legislation, including Natasha’s Law. The course helps staff communicate allergen information confidently, ensure customers can make informed choices, and meet Food Standards Agency guidance on allergen training.
Managing Customer Conflict in Hospitality
This training course helps hospitality staff to develop the skills and confidence to handle challenging customer interactions, reduce the risk of conflict, and maintain a safe working environment. The course covers common causes of disputes, effective complaint handling, and strategies for managing situations involving intoxicated customers.
Licensing Law Awareness Training
Licensing Law training helps businesses that sell, or supply alcohol to understand their responsibilities under the Licensing Act 2003. The course covers the key licensing objectives, promotes the responsible sale of alcohol, and provides guidance on creating safe, welcoming environments that support customer wellbeing and business success.
Eligible Tourism and Hospitality businesses in York and North Yorkshire can apply for training for two members of staff, who will receive a certificate upon completion of the online training.
