Visit North Yorkshire celebrates official launch

On Monday 21 October, we officially launched as Visit North Yorkshire, the new destination management and marketing organisation, which is part of North Yorkshire Council.

Although work has already been delivered using this new brand, the event gave us the opportunity to bring together the county’s Tourism industry to mark the occasion.

The event was held at one of the county’s key tourist attractions, Castle Howard and saw 80 representatives from tourism businesses from across North Yorkshire come together to meet the new Tourism team, hear about the great work that has already been delivered and the plans for future activity in-line with the new 10-year Destination Management Plan (DMP) for North Yorkshire.

The launch followed the news that the DMP had been unanimously approved at North Yorkshire Council Executive. The plan, which was developed in consultation with over 500 key stakeholders, outlines Visit North Yorkshire’s vision for supporting the growth of the visitor economy in a responsible and sustainable way through five clearly defined priority areas: Data and Intelligence, Place, People, Product Development and Position & Profile. Although the event marked the official launch of Visit North Yorkshire, work has already been delivered since North Yorkshire Council was formed in April 2023 and this was outlined during the event.

  • In November last year a joint bid for a Local Visitor Economy Partnership (LVEP) for both York and North Yorkshire was approved
  • The first countywide Visitor Guide was published, and an updated version for 2025 is currently being produced
  • The first countywide Venue Guide was created and taken to The Meetings Show to showcase North Yorkshire as a first-class events destination
  • The first destination marketing campaign spanning the whole of North Yorkshire, Find Your Escape, was staged from the spring until October
  • The first Long Course Weekend Yorkshire came to Masham
  • The first Selby Restaurant Week was staged and Harrogate Restaurant Week continued

There were also presentations from the Visit North Yorkshire team, which covered Place Development, including our countywide approach to data and research, Strategic Events and Visitor Servies, Partnership & Commercial and Destination Marketing.

We also welcomed key speaker Gary Holt, Founder and Strategic Director of the marketing agency SomeOne, who are working with the Destination Marketing team on a high impact brand awareness campaign to coincide with the launch of the new Visit North Yorkshire website in Spring 2025.
