Website Options for Businesses

Visitnorthyorkshire.com is our established tourism website that covers all aspects of the visitor experience across North Yorkshire.

The website lists Business Profiles in three different ways of answering the visitor query, which we describe simply as ‘What’, ‘Where’ & ‘Why’.

This allows us to address all the queries and interests that motivate people to research a destination, and through that ensure visitnorthyorkshire.com returns at the top of search engine results for hundreds of search terms.

Different content for different user journeys

What

This is the traditional way of presenting the visitor offer, dividing into business sectors of “Accommodation”, “Things to do“, “Food and Drink“ and “Shopping” – with subpages that detail the smaller definitions such as, “Hotels”, “Restaurants”, “Historic Houses”.

Where

For visitors interested in, or looking for information on individual places such as. “Ripon”, “Harrogate”, “Masham” etc, with subpages that break the information into sectors such as “Things to do in Ripon”, “Shopping in Pateley Bridge”, “Food and drink in Knaresborough” and  “Places to stay in Harrogate”.

We call What and Where pages, our 'directory pages', listing what is in the county in a simple way for people to find.

Why pages

These pages relate to visitor’s motivations in making choices of where to go and what to do when visiting.  That might be a hobby or interest, a personal preference or some other circumstance.  Examples of these pages are “Cycle friendly accommodation”, “Fine Dining”, “Dog friendly attractions”, “Echoes of the past” …

These pages also include editorial content such as blogs, top-tens and itineraries, specifically designed to inspire and attract potential visitors considering a short break where their motivations will inspire their choice of destination.

We call these our 'marketing pages', they go beyond helping visitors find what they can visit, and speak to people more personally, about why they would like to visit locations and businesses across North Yorkshire.

Your options in Business Profile pages on our site.

When your business is listed on Visit North Yorkshire, we use it to illustrate the breadth of offer across each of these categories by including your business on each of the pages to which it is relevant.

Visitors will find your business through their own unique journey, by either searching online or coming directly to the website and following their interests and being inspired.

Bronze Business Profiles

  • These pages are a way for any visitor-facing business to be listed on visitnorthyorkshire.com, they are included in our simple directory pages (the  What and Where) as detailed above.
  • Bronze profiles will not be included or directly linked marketing content, though we regularly link to the pages on which they appear.
  • Bronze profile pages are free, and you can sign up for a Bronze profile now by completing this form.

Silver, Gold and Platinum Business Profiles

  • These are a way for visitor-facing businesses to be part of the full visitor experience we create on the Visit North Yorkshire website and that we share across our digital channels.
  • In addition to the “What” and “Where” pages, these listings are also included in the “Why” content outlined above that we share not only on the website but also across social media, newsletters and PR activity. We call these our ‘marketing’ pages.
  • Silver, Gold and Platinum business profiles always appear above Bronze profiles.
  • Marketing profiles have more features than directory profiles such as maps, website links and more images. For most visitors they will contain all the information the need in deciding to visit your business.
  • These listings can also be included in blogs, itineraries and other editorial content.
  • Silver profiles and above can also have online booking links and other features specific to their sector.
  • These listings can create Experiences. An experience is a way to highlight an immersive part of your offer, an experience is typically part of your business model that is bookable, guided or curated in some way and exclusive or limited in availability.
  • Silver profiles and above can have a username and password to manage much of their business profile directly.
  • Silver and above partners also receive promotion and activity outside of their business profile features.
