Experiences are a new listing option for the Visit North Yorkshire website. Experiences help highlight aspects of the visitor offer that are unique, engaging and hands on. Experiences are designed to appeal to visitors who are looking for something new and exciting in their visit.
These new listings are designed to highlight the special and experiential parts of your offer to visitors that don’t always stand out in a standard web listing where the general visitor offer might have to take priority.
What is an Experience?
An Experience can be many things but they typically have three characteristics:
- They are guided, supervised or curated in some way, giving a personal touch or insight
- They require booking, or reservation of a place – you can’t opt in without prior planning.
- They are exclusive or offer something that is unavailable to customers as part of general admittance.
Successful experiences might include:
- Footplate ride on a steam train
- Be a pub landlord for a day
- Make your own gin
- Dine on a canal boat
- Fly a (or in a) bi-plane
- Chefs table tasting menu
- Behind the scenes tour of a Stately Home
What would not be an experience?
- Standard entry to an attraction
- Normal menu fine dining or tasting menu
- A talk or lecture with no hands-on or participation element
These would all still have a place on our website but are better as part of your main listing to highlight your standard visitor offer.
